Here’s some more Walney Beach wildlife. A winkle on a rock with barnacles. Great fun to eat, boiled in a tin can on the beach and eaten with a pin. Or so I’m told – I haven’t tried, except as part of a Parisian plateau de fruits de mêr which isn’t the same thing at all.

  1. I had no idea they were called winkles. Great photo. There’s something special to it, but I’m not sure how to analyze it. Perhaps its just that I long to see the sea!

  2. I thought all of those oop north ate winkles? Or is that the Welsh?

  3. Must be something to do with Rugby prowess then, Kris. I expect Willie Horne ate winkles on Walney beach.

  4. That’s a gorgeous shot!
