Tesco Duck

You could say that today was a lovely day, for a duck. But this female mallard seems to be on to a good thing every day. She’s often to be seen hanging around the entrance of the Tesco supermarket on Hindpool Road, and inevitably gets a payoff from shoppers who buy extra bread rolls.

Ducks are fine by me. They have quite soft beaks and anyway the beaks aren’t at bum height. Geese, on the other hand, are a totally different matter. While on Open University summer schools at York University I encountered the geese that gather around the door of the Wentworth College refectory at breakfast time, and if you don’t give them your breakfast roll you get goosed.
