Ferry Road

Um, nearly forgot. Still, there’s five minutes of today left to squeeze one in!

These houses in Ferry Road on Barrow Island, near the Walney Bridge, just are Barrow to me. Or at least they were. There’s something missing now but when I was little the strip of tarmac, now a linear car park for the shipyard, was railway tracks, and the houses looked out onto them.

  1. Does it lead to a ferry though? My favourite big blue A road sign is from Scotland, pointing to Strom Ferry (No ferry)

  2. Well, it did once of course, because before the Walney Bridge was built you got to and from Walney by ferry. But that was 100 years ago.

The ferry slipways are still there and used by small boats.
