Summer’s Almost Gone

Dunlins on Walney Beach

It’s a sure sign that summer is coming to an end (some might argue that it never started this year) when the dunlin and other shorebirds return from their breeding grounds in the high moors of the Pennines and the Forest of Bowland, and start skittering about on the beach.

It won’t be properly autumn, though, until the curlews return.

  1. Did summer actually arrive this year?

Great work on your blog today and a very appropriate picture.

I’ve just racked up two years at South Shields Daily Photo and I hope to be passing here in two years time to compliment you again! Keep up the good work!
Thanks to everyone who has passed by and left a comment or some encouragement, it makes it all worthwhile.

  2. Looking forward to the curlew pictures
