High Bridge

This was one of my ‘sketches’ for the theme day, but it didn’t quite fit the bill. I like it as a photo though. It really ought to be in black & white I think.

Anyway, this is the High Bridge, which takes Michaelson Road, and not so long ago the main A590 road to Walney – over the docks. The dock system makes use of the channel separating Barrow Island, which we are looking towards, from the mainland.

The bridge itself dates from the mid-60s. Before that I can remember a real old Victorian swing bridge, all iron girders. It feels mych more open now. I have a vague feeling that the old bridge also carried railway tracks, and there were certainly railway tracks further ahead, on the island.

  1. I like the atmosphere on this photo… nice…

  2. This one is so plain after hearing about the old one. They sure knew how to build aesthetically back in the day 🙂

  3. Another in the style of Henri Cartier-Bresson! Love It

  4. Great mood shot
