The View from the Bridge

Lakes Panorama

It’s a beautiful autumn day today, and a great one to wander over to Walney Bridge to celebrate this most wonderful of views. Photos never really do it justice, I find.

On the far left you can see the tower of the now-derelict Vickerstown Methodist Church (a building which has been shamefully neglected since the church moved to more modest premises.) Walney Promenade (aka “FDR Drive”!) skirts the edge of the island. Black Combe you know by now, over North Scale. Scafell and Scafell Pike, the highest mountains in England, appear over the slag bank and the college. Far right, and a good deal closer as the crow flies, is Coniston Old Man and its family of peaks.

  1. It could be the Med – a very blue sky and sea ..

  2. This is a stunning view. Very nice indeed. I can see why it would be a favorite.

  3. Another great shot to add to your collection!

  4. A very definite Postcard from Barrow.
    Well composed
